Sister's Day Ideas

When is it?: 2nd Sunday in August

Sister's Day is an informal celebration held the second Sunday in August, to celebrate the special relationship of blood relatives, and women in the sisterhood of professions or just life.

Sisters can drive us crazy as we are growing up, either because they are older and we're jealous, or they're younger and we have no patience. For the lucky ones, there comes a time when the animosity and jealousy takes a back seat to the love and affection that has lain buried under the struggles of adolescence. Unfortunately, that's also the time when we are preparing ourselves to move off into a life of our own, whether that is university, a job, or other life change that separates us physically from our sisters.

Once separated by distance, it can be hard to maintain the same relationship and sharing that existed when you lived under the same roof. Many sisters make a point of letter writing, phone calls, and of course, email to stay in touch. But life's circumstances change and the people with it, so the physical distance can also become an emotional one.

Sister's Day provides a special day for those who are still close to their blood or spiritual sisters, to celebrate a very special relationship that can't be had with any other person. And for those who have drifted apart, it is often an occasion of coming together again, to rejoice in old memories, and create new ones to keep us bonded more closely in the future.
