Bug Party Theme
Boys in particular will enjoy this
party theme. Bugs are popular with kids and they can take over a
party in no time at all!
The Invitations: Buy a chocolate ladybug
and glue it to a plain green invitation card. Write the details of
the party on the card.
The Decorations: Go wild with the décor. The more plastic spiders
and beetles hanging around the better! Buy full packs of plastic
insects and hang them from the ceiling or have them scattered across
the table and chairs. Use markers to make red and blue balloons look
like beetles and hang butterfly cutouts on the walls.
The Cake: Use three smaller chocolate cakes joined together to make
an ant. Use licorice sticks for his antennae and legs. Ice with
chocolate icing.
The Games:
-Bug Dip: For this game you need to make up about 5 packs of blue
Jell-O ahead of time. Dump all the Jell-O into a basin and mix it up
a bit. Add a package of gummy worms and mix the whole thing up so
the worms are all through it. Each child has to put their hands
behind their back and try to grab a worm with their teeth, no hands
allowed.
-Six-Legged Ant Race: Use scarves to tie three children together
around the waist. They now have to go through an obstacle course you
have previously set up, around a chair, over a block, etc.
-Water Bug Race: Give each child a 3"x3" piece of card paper and
some markers. They have to design their own bug, color it and cut it
out. Now, plasticize all the bugs by pressing them between two
pieces of contact paper, making sure the edges are sealed and
cutting the bugs out, leaving a 1/2" edge of contact paper. You
should have a pre-filled wading pool ready out in the yard. Each
child places their bugs in the water and when you say, they let go
and can blow, but not touch, their bugs. The first bug to reach the
other side of the pool is the winner. You can hold several races to
make this last longer.
-Insect Toss: Take red balloons and draw the markings of a lady bug
on them. Now fill each balloon with about 4 cups of water. Pair the
guests up and have the pairs stand two feet apart, facing each
other. Give each pair a lady bug. They have to toss the bug back and
forth, each taking a step backwards for every successful toss and
catch. Eventually, they will be so far apart that the bug will fall
and break. The last pair with an intact bug wins.
The Prizes: For this theme, you'll find lots of fun little favors.
Fill goody bags with gummy insects, spider rings and fake bugs.
