Birthday Ideas & Fun
Date: Whenever that special
person was born!
Is there anything more fun, or
potentially more stressful, than a child's birthday party? The secret
to success, in other words, a party the kids enjoy and which doesn't
drive you to distraction, is planning ahead, and not setting yourself
up for disasters.
While things tend not to be so difficult
to plan as your child gets older, it can take more creativity, but
then, you'll be saving time on how to prevent squabbles and accidents,
and can invest that in activities that are more age appropriate.
Youngsters love parties. They also get tired, excited, jealous,
cranky, and more. Save yourself the grief of major clean-ups or
stained carpets, by using disposable plates, cups, napkins,
tablecloths, etc. Keep the food and any beverages that aren't water,
in rooms where the floor can be easily wiped.
Only do the high up streamers and balloons if you really want all that
exercise. Otherwise, put your decorations down on the children's
level, and let them enjoy everything, even if that includes busting
the balloons. Clean up is much simpler for you, and the trimmings will
be more enjoyable for them.
For slightly older children capable of cleaning up after themselves,
have a bowl of treats like foil wrapped chocolate coins, and offer one
for every napkin, streamer or balloon leftover that they find. And
don't forget to reward those who didn't find any, because they were
nice enough to put all their things in the right place to start with!
